Marcel and Michelle began their aikido practice respectively in 1985 and 1986 at the Montreal Aikikai. They also broadened their expertise by taking part in numerous intensive training courses with Shihan such as Yamada, Kanai, and Saotome in Canada and the United States, and visiting other dojos in Europe and Japan.

Both had already accumulated several years of experience teaching aikido at the Montreal Aikikai and McGill University when, in 2000, they decided to set up their own dojo. It was then that they joined the Canadian Aikido Federation, an organization linked to Hombu dojo in Tokyo, and enriched their practice with Kawahara shihan and now Osawa shihan.

Over the years, Marcel and Michelle have become very involved in the aikido community, first, by supporting instructors from new dojos around Montreal, as guest instructors in seminars, as shidoin (technical representatives) for Quebec with the CAF, of which Michelle is also vice-president, having been an honorary member since 2011. Finally, they are the founders of the Association québécoise d’aikido (AQA).

Collaborators

Marcel and Michelle can count on several of their advanced students (shodan and above) to help them teach their classes.
